Nancy Lee Deaner

Nancy Lee Deaner, 82, passed away on February 4, 2023 in Dunedin, FL. Nancy was born on May 4, 1940 in Kalamazoo, MI to parents Lester and Florence Comstock. She was the middle child of three lively daughters. Nancy, along with sisters Janet and Lori, shared a love for dance. Nancy started tap dancing at the young age of three and continued to dance her whole life.

Nancy graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School is 1958. After graduation, she worked for Gibson Guitar Company, and then worked at Meijer for an astounding 25 years. But, the position she was most proud of was the role she held at Kalamazoo Central High School as vice principal/lead secretary where she worked until retiringin 2002.

On November 21, 1959, Nancy married the love of her life, Kurt Paul Deanerat United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo, MI. Together, they had two children whom they adored, Timothy and Karen. Nancy and Kurt had a marriage one could only dream of. They were best friends and enjoyed entertaining family and friends in their home. They loved parties, playing cards, watching sports, and having fun together. 

Nancy will be remembered for her cheerful and kind spirit. She had an inquisitive and caring heart. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with family and friends. Nancy was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing for many years. In fact, in all her years of sewing, she used the same sewing machine that Kurt gifted her for Christmas back in 1959. She and Kurt had many adventures together, whether it was camping, riding dune buggies, golfing or being at their second home on Lake Michigan, Nancy loved to keep busy. She was active in the Red Hat Society and led in country line dancing three times a week for over 15 years.

In 2005, Nancy and Kurt packed up their things and made a big move to find warmer climates. They found a peaceful retreat in Zephyrhills, Florida where they quickly made many friends. They became members of the New Walk Church where found a lot of joy devoting their time as greeters on Sunday mornings.

Nancy was preceded in death by husband KurtDeaner, father Lester Comstock, mother Florence Comstock, father-in-law Paul Deaner, mother-in-law Cleo Deaner, brothers-in-law Craig, William and Doug, sister-in-law Christine, and son Timothy Deaner.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Karen Deaner Thomas, daughter-in-law Kristine Deaner, three grandsons Dustin (Kristin) Gilmore, Andrew (Erica) Gilmore, Matthew (Lydia) Deaner, granddaughter Stephanie Deaner, seven great-grandchildren, sister Janet Saddler,sister Lori Comstock, sister-in-law Nancy (Ken) Brightwell, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Per Nancy’s request, no services will be held. A heartfelt thank you to Dunedin Care Center for making Nancy’s time there comfortable and peaceful.
