Kurt Paul Deaner

Kurt Paul Deaner, 84, of Zephyrhills, FL, passed away on August 31, 2022 after a lengthy illness. Kurt was born August 20, 1938 in Kalamazoo, MI to parents Paul C. Deaner and Cleo (Schriener) Deaner. Kurt was the oldest of six siblings and relished in his role as big brother. He had a protective nature and was the steady source of wisdom for many people in his life who relied on him for advice and compassion. 

  

Kurt had many interests and skills, and so after graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School, he worked in several industries, ranging from Bell Telephone to Kal-Litho Kalamazoo making printing plates. Kurt was employed by Kite Decorating for 10 years until he opened his own business, Deaner Decorating which became a successful painting and wallpapering business where he served commercial and residential customers until retiring in 2003. 

  

On November 21, 1959, Kurt married the love of his life, Nancy L. Comstock at United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo, MI. Together, they had two children whom they adored, Timothy and Karen. Kurt and Nancy had a marriage one could only dream of. They were best friends and enjoyed entertaining family and friends in their home. They loved parties, playing cards, watching sports, and having fun together.  

  

Whether it was camping, riding dune buggies, golfing or being at their second home on Lake Michigan, Kurt loved being outdoors. He was known around the shoreline as “Park Jester.” Kurt also had an affection for his cars and trucks and always kept them in A1 shape. 

  

In 2005, Kurt and Nancy packed up their things and made a big move to find warmer climates. They found a peaceful retreat in Central Florida where they quickly made many friends. They became members of the New Walk Church where found a lot of joy devoting their time as greeters on Sunday mornings. 

  

Kurt will be remembered by all who knew him for his sense of humor, wit and good company. He always had a joke to make you laugh.
