Warriors celebrate homecoming with fifth consecutive win


Royalty was crowned at Zephyrhills Christian Academy Friday night at halftime of the Warriors’ 44-0 romp of Jacksonville Zaraphath Academy.


Gage Mullis and Kalista Capriglione were named king and queen with Caleb Gaskin and Emma Nalette crowned prince and princess. Fred Adams and Isabella Cotto were voted Duke and Duchess.


The Warriors’ victory extended the win streak to five consecutive games after starting the season with a loss to University Christian of Jacksonville. The win was also ZCA’s third shutout of the season.


The first half of the game saw the Warriors jump out to a 12-0 lead until Dimitri Whitehead dashed into the end zone from 28 yards out for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was good and ZCA was in command 20-0.


The second quarter saw Javier Lopez scoop up a fumble and take off for a touchdown giving the Warriors a 26-0 advantage.The scoring didn’t stop as freshman quarterback Jayce Nixon hit Quavious Cook with a 35-yard TD pass extending the lead to 32-0 at halftime.


The second half was more of the same as Whitehead hit pay dirt again when he took off through the Eagles’ defense for a 27-yard touchdown forcing a running clock.


The defense got into the scoring column when pulled an interception down and returned it 42 yards for the final score of 44-0.


The Warriors hit the road next week for the long trek to Jacksonville to face North Florida Educational Institute.
