State Tournament Bound

The Zephyrhills senior division girls softball All-Stars punched their ticket to the Little League State Tournament following a pair of District 13 Tournament wins of Dade City over the weekend.

With a 5-2 win Saturday and an 18-8 win Sunday, Zephyrhills advances to directly to the state tournament in West Melbourne July 8. There are no section games for this division.

It was a good weekend for Zephyrhills Little League teams as each team that was in action Saturday in the district tournament recorded a win.

In Saturday’s games, the 8-10 boys baseball All Stars defeated Teple Terrace 17-2. The Senior division boys baseball team dominated Progress Village 15-6. The 10-12 girls softball team took a 17-10 win over Dade City.

Sunday was a different story as just two Zephyrhills teams collecting wins. Aside from the Senior softball squad’s district claiming performance, the 8-10 boys baseball team rallied from a seven run deficit to defeat Land O’ Lakes 11-9 to stay in the winner’s bracket.

The Senior baseball will fight back in the consolation round after a 17-3 loss to Land O’ Lakes. The 8-10 softball team fell to Land O’ Lakes 19-2. The 10-12 softball team were edged by Land O’ Lakes 11-9.

The teams return to action tomorrow with the Senior baseball team facing progress Village, the 8-10 softball team facing Dade City and the 10-12 softball team playing Dade City. All games are played at Burks Park in Dade City with the first pitch at 7 p.m.
