Seniors doing all the heavy lifting at ZHS

As the ZHS Boys’ Weightlifting season winds down, head coach James Aguilera paid tribute to his six seniors during a senior night ceremony this week.

Aguilera honored seniors Ki’eve Mattox, Rodney Smith, Christian Velasquez, Demetrius Oates , Jordan McDaniel and Joan Alfaro prior to the Bulldogs’ final meet of the regular season against Cypress Creek and Academy at the Lakes.

Zephyrhills cruised to wins in both the Olympic and Traditional divisions with Mattox , Riley Brinker, Oates, Malachi Woodard, Smith, Dax Kirkland and Christian Velasquez all winning their respective weight classes.

“They have been exceptional for me especially Rodney and Jordan. They have been pretty consistent throughout. Rodney is a good team captain and works hard for us. He is the epitome of what it means to be a Bulldog,” Aguilera said. “All those kids work so hard. We appreciate all of them. They would run through wall for me. They make it fun to come to work.”
