Lani Prilliman of Zephyrhills and Peggy Griffiths of Dade City recently won gold in pickleball in their Women’s Doubles bracket of the Senior Games State Championships recently held at the new Sarah VandeBerg Tennis and Fitness Center in Zephyrhills.
Several hundred athletes from all over Florida and out of state participated over the five day event. Winning has qualified them for the National Senior Games Tournament (held every two years) in 2021 in Ft. Lauderdale.
Lani and Peggy have been playing pickleball approximately five years, learning at the Zephyrhills YMCA. The Senior Games provide competitive athletic endeavors for folks over 50 and have been held for over 30 years. There were almost 14,000 participants in 20 sports at the 2019 Senior Games in Albuquerque.
