Zephyrhills held what could of been a scrimmage, but was a regular season victory as the Lady Bulldogs crushed Tenoroc 49-5 Friday night.
An undermatched Tenoroc squad came into the Dog House 0-6 on the season with just six players.
Zephyrhills Coach Chris Smith took the opportunity to get his younger players plenty of playing time with eight players hitting the scoring column.
Sophomore Jade King led all scorers with 14 points followed by 10 points from Allison McCullough and eight points from Armonte Leggett. Ryleigh Hoover canned five points.
“A lot of the young players got to get in and worked on the new things we’ve been trying to implement,” Smith said. “They actually got to see it work against a team instead of each other.
It was the gritty, hustling play of freshman Tatiana Leazza that caught Smith’s eye. Although, she only lit up the scoreboard with two points, her speed up and down the court, along with her defense and rebounding were a force that held the Titans to just one point in the second half.
“It was good to see something happen great for her tonight,” Smith said. “She made really great passes and played really good defense.”
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 4-2 on the season and have back-to-back wins where they have outscored opponents a combined 79-17.
