Zephyrhills sophomore Jade King scored a game-high 19 points Wednesday night to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 42-27 win over rival Pasco.
King was a force from the beginning lighting up the scoreboard with six of Zephyrhills 12 points in the opening quarter as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 12-7 lead.
Zephyrhills continued to roll taking a 23-14 advantage at halftime.
Wednesday’s win brings Zephyrhills to 6-6 on the season and comes at valuable time after the Lady Bulldog suffered a 56-20 loss to Wiregrass Ranch Tuesday.
“We needed this in more ways than the score,” said Zephyrhills coach Chris Smith. “Last night against Wiregrass, we did nothing good and tonight we did a lot of things good.”
The Bulldogs used a strong trap defense to stifle the Pirates while creating turnovers.
“We also passed the ball better and we didn’t panic when the ball touched our hands,” Smith said. “More importantly, I saw teamwork.”
The Lady Bulldogs will need that teamwork when they return to action Friday night on the road against Wesley Chapel.
