High Honors for First and Ryman

Press Box duo honored by Mayor Whitfield

The accolades honoring Greg First and Kerry Ryman for their commitment to Zephyrhills High School athletics came from City Hall Monday night as the two were recognized by Zephyrhills Mayor Gene Whitfield.

First and Ryman, who spent nearly 40 years as public address announcer and clock operator for the Zephyrhills High School football games, were recognized with proclamations in front of a capacity crowd in the City Council Chambers.

The proclamation states, “an amazing volunteer offers their gift of time, inspires hopes and dreams, enjoys helping others, encourages teamwork, is selfless, generous and kind and extends a helping hand and makes a difference.

“Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless. Although, they were a volunteers, they joked that they were paid over the years in the form of hamburgers, hot dogs and boiled peanuts.”

The Zephyrhills High School press box in Bulldog Stadium has been named the First-Ryman Press Box in honor of longtime volunteers.
