Bulldogs, Warrior place two each on All-State teams
Zephyrhills High School and Zephyrhills Christian Academy landed two players each on their respective All-State football teams.
Bulldog linebacker Maguire Neal was named to the Class 5A Second Team and running back Zyre Roundtree was named Honorable Mention. The Warriors put a pair of defensive backs on the Class 2A All-State rosters with freshman Fred Adams leading the way on the Second Team. Fellow cornerback Quavious Cook, Jr. was listed as Honorable Mention.
Neal, a junior, had 51 tackles in the Bulldogs’ historic season that saw them win a pair of playoff games. What made him stand were his 25.5 tackles for a loss including 13 sacks, his four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Neal has collegiate offers from the United States Naval Academy and Utah State University.
Roundtree, a senior, rushed for 899 yards on 122 carries and 10 carries. He added 10 receptions for 47 yards along with 49 kick return yards and 37 yards with an interception return giving him 1,032 all-purpose yards last season.
Adams led the 8-3 Warriors with six interceptions with 50 return yards and returned one for a touchdown. The freshman added 28 tackles and defended 12 passes. On special teams, Adams added over 200 punt and kick return yards.
Cook was a terror on the other side of the field with four interceptions and 38 tackles. Head 13 interception return yards and five passes defended. Cook made his presence known on special teams as well with averaging 11.5 yards per punt return.
