Zephyrhills wrestlers become the Kings of Chapel

Zephyrhills graciously hosted the Kings of Chapel wrestling quad meet Wednesday night with Wesley Chapel, Wiregrass Ranch and Cypress Creek and the outsiders at ZHS went 3-0 to take the title belt as the Kings of Chapel.

The Bulldog grapplers, using this meet as a warm-up for the upcoming Sunshine Athletic Conference tournament, claimed a 42-33 win over Wesley Chapel, a 54-30 victory over Cypress Creek and defeated Wiregrass 53-30.

“It feels good to win it here at home,” said ZHS Head Coach Mike Martinez. “We’re trying to build this area up. It is a tough area. We are trying to restore the respect in this program.”

The Bulldogs earned plenty on the mat Wednesday night. Martinez also saw the quad meet as an opportunity to get some of his junior varsity wrestlers some action as the regular season concludes.

“Those kids fought hard against some of their varsity kids,” Martinez said. “They have something to look forward to because some of them will wrestle in the conference. They got some takedowns and now they can get a turn.”
