McHugh jumps ship to return to Pasco

Zephyrhills assistant football coach Tom McHugh, who was the head coach at rival Pasco from 2007-2018, has returned to try to right the ship in Pirate Country.

As the skipper at Pasco, McHugh led the Pirates to two state semifinal appearances. The Pirates, under McHugh, went to the state semifinals in 2008 and 2011.

Time was of the essence hiring McHugh just before Monday, April 28 start of Spring football. McHugh comes back to Dade City following the resignation of Greg Miller earlier this month.

Miller resigned after being fined $5,000 by the FHSAA and suspended six game for alleged illegal communication with a student-athlete via social media. Pasco was also fined $2,500 by the FHSAA for Miller’s alleged actions.

McHugh’s tenure at Pasco ended 2018 when he was dismissed after the 2018 season. Since then, Pasco has had four coaches.

McHugh will make his return to ZHS, Sept. 26 when the Bulldogs host the Pirates at Tom Fisher Field.
