Driggers, Llanes lead the way yo Powder Puff win
Madison Driggers had a pair of interception returns for touchdowns to pace the Juniors to a 27-0 win over the Seniors in the annual ZHS Powder Puff game.
Pitting the top athletes in each class, this year’s game was a one-sided affair as the Juniors cruised to victory thanks to an unbreakable defense. Along with Driggers’ two interceptions for touchdowns, she had another called back due to a penalty.
Maya Llanes added another interception return for a touchdown to give the Juniors a 20-0 lead. She also threw a touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to give the Juniors the 27-0 win.
Football is not one of the many sports Driggers plays at ZHS, but thanks to her brothers’, football isn’t foreign to her.
“I play a little bit with my brothers, but never anything like that,” she said. “I didn’t expect to even catch the ball. I just used my basketball senses to go up and get it. It was very fun.”
Driggers and Llanes are teammates on the ZHS girls’ basketball team that went 18-7 last season. Llanes was the Sunshine Athletic Conference player of the year.
Her athleticism stood out in the football field as well.
