Bulldogs shutout Fivay, 42-0

Zephyrhills is dominate on both sides of the ball to improve to 3-0

I didn’t take long before Zephyrhills imposed its will on Fivay as the Bulldogs cruised to a 42-0 win over the Falcons.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 on the season after running backs Willie Queen and Jaylin Thomas ran through and around the Falcons. Thomas started off the scoring in less than two minutes into the game when he dashed down the left sideline for 28 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

Queen took over in the second quarter with a 12-yard TD run set up by Thomas’ 28-yard run from the 40. Queen put another score on a three yard plunge and the Bulldogs up 20-0.

“Our offensive line is getting better every week,” Queen said. “I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without them. Seeing that 42 points on the board, I can just thank the coaches for that.”

The aerial attack took over as quarterback Jaxson Rivera hit TJ Jackson with a pair of touchdown passes. The first, a 29-yard strike, was at the 4:11 mark of the second quarter. The next was three minutes later when the two hooked upon a 16-yard scoring play.

Although the Bulldogs looked strong offensively, but Carroll was disappointed in the Bulldogs’ missed opportunities.

“We sputtered in the red zone a couple time and that’s no good,” Carroll said. “One of our goals was to put together some long drives. We got a couple of those, but we missed some opportunities, but our kids played good.”

The defense put the remaining points on the board in the third quarter. Fivay used a defensive stand to stop the Bulldogs inside the one-yard line. The Falcons took over on downs. Two plays later, a bad snap resulted in a safety giving the Bulldogs a 35-0 lead forcing a running clock starting with 8 minutes left in the third quarter. The defense fell on another bad snap in the end zone to make the difference 42-0.

“Each week, we are getting more disciplined,” said senior lineman Kamil Mehrab. “As a team, we’re sound, but there is more work to do.”

The Bulldogs look to make it four in a row next Friday night on the road at Wesley Chapel.
