Mayor’s Youth Council is coming back
Zephyrhills Mayor Melonie Bahr Monson is bringing back the Mayor’s Youth Council and is looking for young leaders to make the return triumphant.
“As our city has grown and the demographics have shifted, I feel it is extremely important to engage the youth on some of the issues and improvements needed in our community,” Monson said in a release. “In the next year, we will be looking at a master plan for all the city parks and what better advise can we get, than from the youth that will be using the parks daily.
Monson said she is looking for seven motivated youth who are ready to make a difference in the community where they live. They will be working hand in hand with the mayor to keep the City Council abreast of the issues and concerns facing their peers. They will also be recommending improvements that can help to ensure a better way of life for all citizens, such as parks, activities, events, and much more.
The youth council will be working with younger age groups to help them understand how government works. They will be involved with volunteering within the community to serve those in need in Zephyrhills.
“Serving on the City’s Youth Council will not only benefit our community, but also the youth in return, as they will be able to earn service hours which is needed when they apply for college, or on a resume as they transition to the workforce,” Monson said.
To apply for the City Youth Council, interested applicants can go on the city website and search for Mayor’s Youth Council Application.
“I am more than excited to get this group up and running and ready to make a difference right here in Zephyrhills,” Monson said.
