A 43-year-old Zephyrhills man operating a motorized scooter was killed Thursday evening when he was struck by a van on Pretty Pond Road, Florida Highway Patrol reported.
According to FHP, the van was traveling eastbound on Pretty Pond Road in the westbound lanes for unknown reasons. The scooter was traveling westbound.
West of the intersection of Chenken Road, the two vehicles collided nearly head-on. Transported to an area hospital, the scooter driver later died from injuries suffered during the crash.
The 74-year-old male driver of the van suffered minor injuries and his two passengers were not injured.
