Emma Rhoden of Dade City, Fl was recently selected a member of the Beef Show Team at Connors State College in Warner, Oklahoma. Rhoden is a 2022 graduate of Pasco High School. She is the daughter of Misty and Jack Rhoden.
Emma is a Freshman at CSC and pursuing an Associates of Science in Agriculture with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. Show Team members work with breeding beef cattle. Members work with the college farm feeding, grooming and complete daily maintenance of the herds. Students are responsible for preparing tack and equipment for the shows.
They break the animals to lead and train them for display in the show ring. Connors State has a rich tradition in the quality of the animal herds at CSC. The college farm is over 100 years old, raising Santa Gertrudis and Simmental cattle. Students assist at County and Regional Livestock Shows in the area. Team members are also responsible for grooming the bulls and their presentation and handling during the college’s bull sales in December and April of each year.
Show team members gain valuable experience and skills in livestock training and handling as well as an insight in the beef industry. CSC’s Show Team travels and exhibits at the Cattlemen’s Congress, Oklahoma State fair, Tulsa State fair, State Fair of Texas, Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, San Antonio Livestock show, and the Houston livestock show and rodeo. The Show Team members get the opportunity to show at some of the most prestigious shows across the U.S. and the opportunity to network with other cattle breeders.
