A hot time in the city

The Pigz in Z’hills BBQ and Blues Festival packed them in again this year with perfect weather, amazing food and hot entertainment.

With temperatures in the low 80s, the best barbecue in the state and music from the area’s best blues bands, this year’s event rebounded from year ago which was hindered by COVID 19.

The Festival has come a long way in the 12 years since its inception. Having this year’s event designated as the Florida State Barbecue Championship made the 2022 festival bigger and better. In addition, Friday night of festivities kicked off the festival with a Kidz Grillin’ Competition.

“This is our first time here and we will definitely be back,” said Dave Geary, who spent most of his afternoon trying food from various teams and vendors. “The food is absolutely amazing. This is what barbecue is all about.”

From professional barbecue teams to backyard hobbyists, the competition was “hot” as team prepared chicken, pulled pork, ribs and brisket for the judges for $10,000 in cash prizes.

Pigz in Z’Hills helped The Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce to provide $40,000 in scholarships for local Zephyrhills area students in the 11 years since its inception. Many local youth groups and charities that dedicate time and talent to the festival are awarded donations raised from the event.
