16-year-old Zephyrhills struck and killed

Autumn Palm accident claims life of teem

A 16-year-old Zephyrhills girl suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a car while walking along Autumn Palm Drive Wednesday morning.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the vehicle which struck the girl was traveling south on Autumn Palm Drives approaching Tucker Road when the driver failed to observe the girl in the roadway and collided with her.

She was airlifted from the scene with serious injuries and died later at a local hospital.

Passersby saw the girl laying along the road and rendered aid. Contrary to other broadcast and published reports, the girl was not on a bicycle and the driver did not flee the scene.

Troopers did not release the names of the pedestrian or the driver because of its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved constitutional amendment meant to protect crime victims.
