Zephyrhills Little League kicks off season in grand style on Opening Day

If there was any doubt that baseball and softball season had officially arrived, it disappeared the moment the first team lined up on field one at Samuel W. Pasco Park Saturday morning. Zephyrhills Little League’s Opening Day brought out 33 teams and nearly 400 excited ballplayers, transforming the complex into a sea of colorful jerseys, proud parents, and community spirit.

And that was after a night of heavy rain.

Thanks to the hard work and early-morning dedication of Pasco County Parks and Recreation, the fields were not only playable, but they they were in fantastic shape. Crews worked tirelessly to ensure the infields were groomed, the grass was ready, and the complex looked worthy of the big day. Their efforts didn’t go unnoticed, as league officials and families alike expressed appreciation for making sure Opening Day could proceed without a hitch.

Serving as Master of Ceremonies was Zephyrhills Little League President Casey Campbell, who kept the energy high and the ceremony moving. Campbell welcomed families, recognized the countless volunteers who make the league run, and took time to thank the coaches and board members whose behind-the-scenes work keeps everything on track.

The ceremony also paid tribute to players entering their final season with the league; a bittersweet milestone for families who have spent years on these same fields. Sponsors were honored for their continued support, a reminder that local businesses play a huge role in keeping registration fees affordable and uniforms on players’ backs.

One by one, all 33 teams were introduced, parading proudly across the field to cheers from the stands. From the youngest T-ballers to the seasoned senior division players, the excitement was unmistakable. For many of the league’s nearly 400 children, it was the first official moment of the new season — and you could see it in their smiles.

Beyond the games, the complex buzzed with activity. Vendors were set up throughout the grounds, offering food, treats, and merchandise for families to enjoy between innings. The festivities will continue into the evening with a much-anticipated raffle, giving families another chance to connect and support the league.

Opening Day at Zephyrhills Little League once again proved to be more than just the start of a season. It was a celebration of community — of volunteers, sponsors, local partnerships, and nearly 400 kids ready to make memories under the Florida sun.

Play ball.
