Zephyrhills Honors State Champion and Record-Breaking Weightlifter Malachi Woodard
With strength, heart, and an unshakable drive to succeed, Malachi Woodard has carved out a legacy in Florida high school weightlifting history — and now, the City of Zephyrhills is officially recognizing his achievements.
In a proclamation issued by Mayor Melonie Bahr Monson on July 28, 2025, Malachi was honored as a state champion and record-breaking weightlifter, celebrated not only for his athletic excellence but also for the pride he brings to his school and community.
A senior at Zephyrhills High School, Malachi began powerlifting as a freshman and quickly rose through the ranks. He captured his first state title as a sophomore, and this year, he ended his high school career with another championship victory, cementing his status as one of Florida’s elite lifters.
At the 2025 Class 2A Boys Olympic-Snatch competition, Malachi stunned the field by breaking the state record in the 154 lb. division with a lift of 240 pounds, surpassing the previous mark of 230 lbs. The historic moment not only highlighted his physical prowess but also underscored the discipline and resilience he has shown throughout his journey.
“Standing just 5 feet 3 inches tall, Malachi has proven that determination and heart outweigh any physical limitation,” the proclamation states.
Malachi’s efforts have also opened new doors for his future. He recently signed a national letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Lindenwood University in Missouri. The emotional signing took place in the ZHS weight room, surrounded by his family, teammates, and Coach James Aguilera — a moment of celebration and gratitude for everyone who supported him.
Looking ahead, Malachi aspires to become a strength and conditioning coach, with the goal of training future professional athletes. His journey from the high school weight room to the collegiate stage is a testament to the power of perseverance and purpose.
In her proclamation, Mayor Monson praised Malachi’s accomplishments and extended the city’s heartfelt congratulations.
“We wish him continued success at Lindenwood University and in all his future endeavors,” she wrote.
Malachi Woodard’s story is more than just records and medals — it’s an inspiration for students across Zephyrhills and a reminder that greatness is earned through hard work, passion, and belief in oneself.
