Lady Bulldogs dominate in 13-3 win

The Lady Bulldogs’ bats came alive Friday night as they crushed Academy at the Lakes 13-3 in a game shortened to six innings by the 10-run mercy rule.

Senior Hannah Helms went 4-for-5, with three singles, a home run and four RBIs to lead the Zephyrhills offensive attack. Junior Mel Moreno had a hot bat going 4-for-5 with a pair of singles, a double and a triple. Senior Isabella Rivera, a Jackson State commit went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles.

“This is a very good one for us,” said head coach Kristen Dumont said. “The bats were there, and we were aggressive on the bases. We laid some bunts down that caught them completely off-guard. We had some really good hitting tonight.”

Pitching from seniors Hannah Wadyka and Laila Woolfolk dominated the Wildcats. The two hurlers pitched three innings each allowing six hits, two earned runs, while walking two and striking out four.

The win comes at an opportune time as Dumont’s Lady Bulldogs prepare for Tuesday’s matchup against rival Pasco in Dade City. Pasco is winless this season.

“This gives us some momentum,” Dumont said. “The rivalry with Pasco is definitely there for softball.”
