It was a bittersweet night for Zephyrhills volleyball coach Maya Clark as her Bulldogs swept the visiting Patel Blazers in straight sets Tuesday, but also said goodbye to three seniors who played their final game in the Dog House.
Before the match, Jayka Borowski, Ariana Cotto, and Jessie Starnes were honored in a special pregame ceremony. Each senior, joined by family members, was recognized for her dedication and contributions to the Zephyrhills High School volleyball program. The trio has been with Clark since she took over the program three years ago, helping shape the team’s culture and leadership.
“They have all been a good group of girls,” Clark said. “We had ups and downs, but we made it through. They all made it through here. They set the tone for this team. They are all very positive, and that’s what the girls need—especially when we’re down.”
The Bulldogs weren’t down on this night, as they dominated Patel with scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-17, showcasing teamwork, energy, and strong play from start to finish.
Zephyrhills will close out the regular season Thursday night on the road against rival Pasco, looking to carry the momentum from Senior Night into postseason play.
