Bulldogs win 21-20 in the annual Spring Game

Football made its return Friday night under the lights at the Villages High School where Zephyrhills claimed a 21-20 varsity win in the annual Spring Game.

A pair of hard-earned touchdowns by Roe Miller and a fortunate tip in the hands of Saniiyn Black is what the Bulldogs needed for the road win.

The Buffalo took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Zephyrhills defense tightened and picked up a safety to pull a bit closer.

In the second quarter, Miller plowed his way to a 54-yard touchdown to close the gap and then Kingston McCullough made a spectacular catch on a tipped ball and took it to the endzone for the lead.

Miller’s skills shined in the third quarter with another touchdown run to give the Bulldogs a 21-14 lead. The Buffalo scored late in the third quarter to bring the score to 21-20 and went for the lead on a two-point conversion. The attempt failed and the Bulldogs claimed the win after three quarters.

JV players saw the action in the fourth quarter and the Bulldogs won the quarter 7-0.

“We have a lot of stuff to work on. We have to watch this film,” said ZHS head coach Nick Carroll. “We were down and we didn’t lay down. Our defense made some big stops and we run the ball effectively.
