Zephyrhills pitcher Colin O’Malley threw a one-hit shutout while striking out 10 to lead Zephyrhills to a 10-0 win over Fivay Thursday night.
In a game shortened to five innings by the 10-run mercy rule, O’Malley was near flawless for the 4-8 Bulldogs. The junior righthander walked just two Falcons’ batters. Ther Zephyrhills defense was solid behind him by not giving up an error.
“He’s young and inexperienced and this is how you get battle tested,” said Zephyrhills coach Ralph Rogers. “You have to get out there sooner or later. His last three outings were good. He is throwing the ball real well.”
Sophomore catcher Traiton Costello had the hot bat going two-for-three with two RBIs. O’Malley, Kye Bunner and Sean Dobbins each scored a pair of runs.
“This is a good group of kids and the culture here has changed,” Rogers said.
