A 78-year-old Zephyrhills man lost his life early Wednesday morning in a heartbreaking collision on Dairy Road, where heavy fog severely limited visibility for drivers.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 6:58 a.m. north of the intersection with Market Square Drive. The victim, attempting to cross the road on foot, entered the path of a southbound Nissan Altima driven by a 28-year-old Leesburg woman.
Emergency responders quickly arrived and transported the man to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. Tragically, he later succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash. No charges have been announced at this time, and officials have not released further details about the circumstances, including whether speed or other factors contributed beyond the reported heavy fog. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.
