A fatal collision claimed the life of an unidentified adult male bicyclist on US-301 highlighting ongoing concerns about nighttime roadway safety and visibility for vulnerable road users.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators report that the incident occurred south of Ruth Avenue. A northbound Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 73-year-old man from Dade City, overtook and struck the bicyclist, who was riding in the travel lanes without lights for reasons that remain under investigation.

The bicyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved, and the Jeep driver was not reported to have been injured.

Authorities continue to examine the circumstances of the crash, including the lack of lights on the bicycle—a critical factor in low-light conditions on a high-traffic highway like US-301.
