Tibbett’s Lumber breaks ground

One of the most storied lumber companies in the southeast, Tibbett’s Lumber, broke ground Tuesday on a new facility on Chancey Road in Zephyrhills furthering the planned growth along the city’s industrial corridor.

Set to open in the third quarter of the 2026, Tibbett’s Zephyrhills will focus on the production of trusses, windows, and doors at the 39336 Chancey Rd. location across from Copeland Drive.

City officials and members of Tibbett’s leadership team donned their hard hats and gold shovels to turn dirt and launch the project.

“We’re excited to have another manufacturer in our industrial corridor,” said City of Zephyrhills Planning Director Todd VandeBerg. “We’re excited to see the third project in one year along this corridor. We couldn’t be happier and excited to have you in the city.”

Founded back in 1949 by Linton N. Tibbetts, he set out to become the largest independently owned lumber and building materials supplier in the state of Florida and the largest roof and floor truss company in the Southeast United States.

The business was sold to Home Depot in 2006. In early 2009, Linton, Juan Quesada (former Cox Lumber Co. president and then-current Cox Lumber Ltd. president) and Kyle discussed their mutual desire to re-enter the business. Soon thereafter they began drafting a business plan and pitched the concept to other members of Linton’s family.

Tibbetts Lumber Co. was formed and officially opened its doors in July 2009 in St. Petersburg, one block from the former corporate headquarters. Linton and his son-in-law, Russ Brandes, co-chaired the founding Board of Directors until Linton’s passing in 2011 when Russ became Chairman of the Board.

“We’re proud to welcome Tibbetts and their expansion and we’re proud to call Tibbett’s Lumber a partner,” said East Pasco Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vicki Wilkins. “This continues to be a place to grow, thrive and connect.”
