The scent of slow-smoked ribs drifted through downtown Zephyrhills yesterday as crowds gathered for the annual Pigz N Zhills BBQ & Blues Festival, a daylong celebration of food, music and hometown pride.
From the first notes of live blues echoing down Fifth Avenue to the last rack of ribs pulled from the smokers, the festival presented by the Greater East Pasco Chamber of Commerce delivered exactly what it promised: bold flavors, soulful sounds and a whole lot of community spirit.
Pitmasters lined the streets, tending to smokers that had been going since before sunrise. Brisket, pulled pork, ribs and chicken drew long lines.
On the main stage, blues bands kept the energy high throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Families spread out lawn chairs, kids danced near the stage, and longtime fans nodded along to guitar solos that carried through downtown. The music gave the festival its heartbeat creating a soundtrack that perfectly matched the smoky atmosphere.
Local vendors and artisans added to the event’s charm, offering handmade goods, crafts and specialty treats. Community organizations were also on hand, sharing information and connecting with residents in a relaxed, festive setting.
For many, the event has become a yearly tradition and a chance to reconnect with neighbors and celebrate what makes Zephyrhills unique.
Organizers expressed appreciation for the volunteers, sponsors and city staff who helped bring the event together. From coordinating logistics to keeping the streets clean and safe, the behind-the-scenes work ensured the festival ran smoothly from start to finish.
In true Zephyrhills fashion, Pigz N Zhills wasn’t just about barbecue or music. It was about community — gathering downtown, supporting local businesses and creating memories that will carry well beyond the smoke clearing from downtown.
