Honoring the Life and Legacy of Long Time City Employee Bobby Black

The City of Zephyrhills came together with heavy hearts Monday night during its regular Zephyrhills City Council meeting to honor the life and legacy of long-time city employee Bobby Black.

Public Works Director Shane LeBlanc led the heartfelt tribute, reflecting on Black’s remarkable 32-year career with the city. He began his service in 1993 and spent his entire tenure in Public Works, rising to the role of Superintendent of the Sanitation Division. He was known throughout the organization and the community for his unwavering dedication, integrity, and deep pride in the work he and his team performed.

The tribute held special meaning as Brown’s daughter, Tyashia, and his granddaughter, Bobbi, traveled from Saint Cloud to attend the Monday evening gathering and share in the remembrance.

Black passed away on Jan. 14, just one week after preparing for his well-earned retirement planned for the summer of 2026. His sudden loss left a profound void in the Public Works Department and across the city he served so faithfully.

In a lasting tribute to his contributions and enduring legacy, the City of Zephyrhills has officially designated the ingress and egress to the City Yard Maintenance Facility as Bobby Black Way. This symbolic honor ensures that his name and spirit will continue to guide those entering and leaving the facility where he spent so many years leading with distinction.

Black will always be remembered for his commitment to public service, his upbeat personality, signature laugh, and impeccable style. His leadership and devotion to the community will never be forgotten.
