Car Accident Results in Death of Zephyrhills Woman

A Zephyrhills woman was one of two women were killed late Sunday night in a nearly head-on collision on Blanton Road, according to authorities.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Dec. 29, north of Platt Road. Investigators said a Chrysler Pacifica driven by a 76-year-old Zephyrhills woman was traveling eastbound on Blanton Road when, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane.

The Pacifica collided nearly head-on with a Dodge Ram 2500 towing a utility trailer that was traveling westbound and driven by a 37-year-old man from Dade City.

A passenger in the Pacifica, a 60-year-old woman from Newcomerstown, Ohio, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Pacifica was transported to an area hospital, where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the Dodge Ram and an adult passenger, a 41-year-old Dade City woman, were not injured. Two children who were also traveling in the truck — a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl — suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine what caused the Pacifica to cross into oncoming traffic. No additional details were immediately available.
