A 73-year-old Zephyrhills man died after being struck by a pickup truck while attempting to cross State Road 54, according to Florida Highway Patrol officials.
The crash occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. Monday east of Coats Road on SR 54. The pedestrian entered the roadway into the path of an eastbound Ford F-150 driven by an 82-year-old man from Wesley Chapel.
The driver was not injured in the collision. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. No additional details, including the pedestrian’s identity, have been released pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities have not indicated whether speed, impairment, or other factors contributed to the crash. The roadway was temporarily closed during the investigation but has since reopened.
