Relief on the Horizon: Morris Bridge and Chancey Road Intersection in Zephyrhills Set To Reopen By Year’s End

After months of closures, detours, and mounting frustration for commuters in east Pasco County, officials have announced that the long-awaited repairs at the intersection of Morris Bridge Road and Chancey Road are nearing completion. The vital crossroads is expected to fully reopen before the end of 2025, bringing much-needed relief to drivers in the rapidly growing Zephyrhills area.

Pasco County Public Works crews have been working on extensive repairs to the intersection since early 2025, addressing structural issues, deteriorated pavement, and potential washouts that initially prompted the closure in June. What began as targeted fixes evolved into a more comprehensive project to ensure the roadway’s safety and longevity amid increasing traffic from new developments in Zephyrhills and nearby Wesley Chapel.

The project has caused significant traffic congestion, forcing commuters onto detour routes like Coats Road and U.S. 301, leading to lengthy delays and backups. Local residents have voiced their exasperation, with many describing extended commutes and challenges for pedestrians and even emergency responders.

The closure exacerbated congestion in an area already strained by suburban growth.

Despite earlier estimates pointing to a mid-September reopening, delays pushed the timeline back. However, Pasco County officials confirmed yesterday that the intersection is “nearly complete” and on track to reopen by year’s end.
