A 22-year-old Port Richey woman was injured late Wednesday night after being struck by a Zephyrhills Police Department patrol vehicle, prompting a state-led investigation and administrative leave for the officer involved.
The crash occurred on November 19 at approximately 11:02 p.m., at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 20th Street, according to information released by the department. An on-duty ZPD officer was driving a marked patrol car when the collision occurred.
Investigators say the pedestrian was improperly in the roadway when she was struck. Emergency medical responders transported her to Lakeland Regional Hospital, where she is currently listed in stable condition.
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene shortly after the accident and has taken over the investigation, which will include reviewing the circumstances leading up to the crash.
Per standard department protocol in cases involving officer-involved crashes, the Zephyrhills Police officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
