Crowd Gathers as Zephyrhills Rings In the Season With Tree Lighting Ceremony

The holiday season officially came alive at Zephyrhills City Hall on Monday night as more than 300 residents filled the courtyard for the annual Christmas tree lighting, a long-standing community tradition that brought festive magic and hometown warmth.

Families lined the walkways, children wore their holiday colors, and neighbors greeted one another with smiles as seasonal musical performances could be heard throughout the courtyard.

This year, the honor of leading the countdown went to Sophie Engels, a Woodland Elementary student selected for the special role, along with Councilman Charlie Proctor, who joined her at the base of the tree. The crowd counted along with them as excitement built.

When the countdown hit zero, the towering City Hall tree burst to life in a blaze of lights. Cheers erupted across the courtyard as children clapped, families raised their phones to capture the moment, and applause echoed off the surrounding buildings.

“I just think, you know, the community is really behind us and we appreciate it,” said Main Street Zephyrhills Director Antwon Gildon. “The hard work that we put into this, it just means a lot to see people coming out and enjoying themselves. The weather is perfect. This is the perfect place for this, perfect time, perfect city.”

Many attendees stayed long after the lighting, taking photos with Santa in front of the glowing tree, enjoying cookies provided by the Girl Scouts, and soaking in the festive atmosphere.

The Christmas tree will remain lit throughout the holiday season, offering residents and visitors a bright backdrop for photos and a shining reminder of the spirit of Zephyrhills.
