Zephyrhills Train Depot Museum Caboose Gets a Fresh New Look

A beloved piece of Zephyrhills history just got a vibrant update. The caboose at the Zephyrhills Train Depot Museum now proudly sports a fresh coat of paint featuring the City of Zephyrhills official brand colors, giving the local landmark a striking new look.

The caboose, located at 39110 South Avenue, has long been a favorite stop for museum visitors and families alike — and city officials say it’s now the perfect spot to snap a family photo.

Built in 1974 by the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad in Waycross, Georgia, the caboose (SCL 01173) once traveled the rail lines of Florida, including right through Zephyrhills. It became part of the city’s history in 2001, when it was acquired following a community-driven effort led by Kathleen Burnside, who was then the city’s Library and Museum Services Director.

The newly refreshed caboose stands as both a colorful photo backdrop and a symbol of Zephyrhills’ proud railroad heritage. Visitors can stop by to admire the update — and while they’re there, step inside the museum to learn more about Zephyrhills’ railroading past and its deep connections to the city’s growth
