The largest graduating class in Zephyrhills High School history walked across the stage and received their diplomas today at the USF Yuengling Center marking and end and a beginning in the lives of the Class of 2025.
The Yuengling Center was packed with friends and family members as 425 members of this year’s graduating class closed the book on their high school career and opened a new one for their future.
“We watched you grow, not just in height and age, but in character, confidence, and compassion,” said ZHS Principal Amanda McCoy in her opening address. “You entered Zephyrhills High School as young teens full of questions and curiosity. And you leave her as young adults full of confidence and potential.”
Valedictorian Joel Torres Espinoza delivered an impactful speech honoring his family and their support to help get him the top of the Class of 2025.
“Me being up here isn’t just a sign of my accomplishments, but the accomplishments of my family as well,” Espinoza said. I dedicate all my success to my family, most importantly my parents Rosa and Jose Torres, Who knows? If it wasn’t for them, I’d probably be in Mexico working in a factory or selling bread on the street. One thing is certain. I wouldn’t be up here talking to you.
“My parents a perfect representation of the American Dream done right. When my father came to America, he worked countless hours even before I was born to support my mom and my older brothers. My mom had the most difficult job. She stayed home to make sure four boys were fed, clean, and at peace.”
Senior Class President Dylan Fleshood told his fellow graduates that their final school year has been more than memorable. It has been historical.
“The Class of 2025 will walk across the stage as the largest class ever at Zephyrhills,” Fleshood said. “I encourage all of you to strive for greatness. Remember, your talent defines what you can’t do. Your motivation determines how much you’re willing to do, and your actions define how well you do it.”
Alyssa Rojas, the ZHS Outstanding Senior, expressed her desire for her classmates not to get caught up in the quest for success.
“Life isn’t about reaching a destination. It is about the journey,” she said. “The lessons were learned and the memories we create, let’s cherish each step and find joy living in the present.”
The ceremony opened with the presentation of colors by the Zephyrhills JRTOC, the National Anthem was sung by members of the Zephyrhills High School Chorus and the Pledge of Allegiance was delivered by ZHS JROTC Battalion Commander Emily Mohler.
