Larry Gordon Woosnam

On September 20th, 2024 Larry Gordon Woosnam better known as Larry AKA “Wooz,” passed away peacefully. He fought a long hard battle with cancer, had good times and bad, but on the 20th succumbed to it.

His last birthday was August 20 of 2024 and that was one of the many good days. We celebrated it with him. He had his favorite food, drink, TV shows , and lots of conversation and laughs. He was 84.

He was born to Doris and John Woosnam on August 20 of 1940 in Elkhart Indiana. He is survived by brother, Tom Woosnam, sister, Cindy Woosnam Nelson, nieces Sheri Conner (Mike), Stacy Woosnam, (Ryan), Julie Binegar, nephews Matt Nelson (Tim), and Luke Nelson (Lisa), and their loving families.

He had many friends but never married. He is also survived by a recent long term friendship, a lovely lady named Marilyn Gober, and her daughter Melanie(Janet) and sons Tim and David. They were very instrumental in making his life longer and better. June, and Betty were also close friends through the years.

Larry was a snowbird. He had a place in IN and a place in FL. He did

about equal time in each. He loved the trips back and forth because he got to stay with his lovely sister… both ways. They had fun. It was usually a hoot.

He was a veteran, regular army. Part of his service was in country,

Korea. It was in the army that he learned to hate flying. He never flew again after his army flight experiences. He called airplanes ‘tubes of death’ (unwarranted of course 🤔).

He worked for GM In many capacities and retired from there. He, his dad, his mother, and brother, all, were GM employees at one time or another. It was a GM family.

He loved the game of golf. ⛳️He and his brother Tom were caddies in their high school days. He got hooked by golf. When golfing, Larry said he would aim for the trees…

so he wouldn’t hit them. He also told where you can find 100 doctors at the same time. Golf course… of course!!! He got Ian Woosnam’s autograph on an umbrella ☔️ in Indiana. Ian was the # 1 golfer in the world at the time. Ian said to Larry… at least two of us can pronounce the name right. Ha ha. 😆

He also worked at the Silverado/Silver Oaks golf course in Zephyrhills, FL and at a course in Anderson. He was a ranger. He could say ‘move that golf cart off the green’. Or ‘speed it up, or let the group behind you play through’. He handled situations and got along with players well. Working there just fed his love of the game. He taught himself how to craft golf clubs and made a set for his brother Tom’s Birthday one year. He won the Elk’s State Gold Championship in 1997.

He was a smart, friendly, good looking, loving, charming man. Loved by many and will be missed greatly by all.

Private celebrations of Larry’s life will be held by family.
